If ever we had acquired a brand as a consequence of other events . . . It runs like this:

We sell Naim electronics.

Naim users often have Linn Sondek turntables.

A (deservedly) popular choice of cartridge for the Linn, particularly with the Naim Aro tone-arm, is the Dynavector.

So we decided to try Dynavector.

Previous experience of the middle range product, the 17D2 had led me to be secure in our choice of Lyra as our "premier" cartridge brand. Even though the 17D3 is a lot more accomplished than the previous D2 version, the Lyra Dorian can still sound better on certain arm / deck combinations. A recent purchaser for a 17D3 to go on an LP12 / Roksan Nima combo, had us suggesting he listen to the Dorian before deciding. On a Nottingham deck, with the Nima arm, the Lyra sounds better. On the Linn, the Dynavector trounces it.

Add in the different loading requirements of the two brands and you can see the potential for getting things wrong. These are not click-to-buy products. We carry the full range on demonstration and are happy work with you to find the right cartridge to suit your system and personal taste. Having said that, the £1000 XX2 is proving extremely consistent, as is the Te Kaitora Rua at just under £2000.

And as for the XV1S . . . damn, damn it's really good!

Dynavector's web site gives excellent information, so clicking on any of the cartridges on the right takes you to their product page.
