True Signal Audio Cables

A very nice man called Tony Monaghan came along to our Audio Show East event in 2017. He wanted to have a chat. Warm smile and a handshake. “We make cables”.

Hearts sank.

Nothing against cables, back in the day we were at the forefront of preaching the importance of them. But, gradually, we also learned that nothing suits everything. These days we have a fairly well rehearsed collection of known combinations depending on the brands of electronics that we are playing. On top of that, brands like Naim, Linn and Rega often make or specify wiring that is both very compatible and respectable value.

True Signals’ background story is interesting in that Tony and his US based partner actually make, as in properly extrude and manufacture, the wire. This is not a simple buy-in and package operation. The uses for which these have been developed were predominately military. Situations where data integrity and reliability is paramount. For the last few years, they have also been supplying a certain well known UK high end cable company.

If we told you, we’d need to kill you 🙂

It was a good pitch! After two days of the audio show, we at least had the excuse of exhaustion to explain the blank expressions.

Undaunted, Tony lent us some samples. It took us a while to get around to trying them out but, finally, we did.

Damn. It looks like we are back on the cable merry-go-round! These are mighty fine pieces of work. So far, they have worked better than the previous best choice  wherever we’ve placed them. Thankfully, the pricing is some way short of the lunatic levels that now seem to be regarded as reasonable, so they have generally been cheaper too.

We still have much to learn but are assembling a sizeable collection of products so that we and potential buyers can make informed choices.
